Darla O'Reilly

Iyengar Yoga

Darla has been practicing yoga for more than 30 years. She has been teaching yoga for more
than 10 years, has studied with many great teachers such as Hart Lazer, Carrie Owerko, and
Deborah Lomond just to name a few. She has completed hundreds of hours of yoga training
over the past 30 years, a 120-hr Pilates Mat Certification and recently has completed her Level I
Iyengar Yoga certification which was by far the most in-depth level of study she has completed
thus far. Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers are extremely well trained. Teacher training is rigorous
and spans a three to five-year period in which teachers follow a program based on an
international syllabus and standards set by B.K.S. Iyengar.

Darla’s yoga experience has taught her that yoga can bring gifts of personal transformation,
holistic health maintenance and stress relief. The short-term benefits are immediate, and the
long-term benefits are profound. Initially she was drawn to Iyengar yoga for its ability to calm
her mind, alleviate aches and pains, and increase strength and flexibility. After continued
practice, she found the benefits expanded. The practice helps her feel more connected to her
mind and body, allows her to approach life and stressful situations with equanimity, and
provides an opportunity for even greater exploration of herself and the world. She loves to
share this transformative power of the yoga journey with all students both experienced and
new.

Darla’s approach to yoga draws from the wisdom of its philosophy and explores how
sequencing unlocks the transformative, healing power of this science and art. Her teaching is
infused with warmth, laughter and creativity.
Currently Darla is teaching two classes at Boathouse Wellness;
Gentle/Beginner

Rhona Buchan

Rhona is a RYT-200 certified Yoga Teacher having competed the YTT-NL training program.  Yoga has been a constant practice in Rhona’s life since 1995. She was first introduced to the power of yoga to foster well-being in mind and body during her study of acting, and has since benefited from yoga in all aspects of her life.

Rhona  originally embarked on her yoga teaching journey in 2002-2004 in Grand Falls-Windsor. This foundational experience laid the groundwork for Rhona’s passion in guiding others on their yoga journey.  After years of being occupied with a legal career and a family, she returned to teaching in St. John’s in 2022, privately and at MAX Fitness.

Rhona curates her Hatha Yoga classes, weaving in the intricacies of alignment to create a tailored experience for each practitioner.  For over 28 years, Rhona has been a student of B.K.S. Iyengar's yoga method. Guided over the years by highly skilled Iyengar teachers such as Bev Winsor, Donna Fornelli, Patricia Hernandes, and workshops with Father Joe, Shirley Daventry-French and Marlene Mahwhinny, she has cultivated a deep understanding of the alignment focus of the Iyengar technique. Rhona’s journey has extended beyond Iyengar yoga to practice other styles of Hatha yoga including Ashtanga and Vinyasa.

Rhona’s approach to teaching draws on her extensive yoga experience and is rooted in creating a space where individuals of all levels can explore the profound benefits of yoga. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, Rhona invites you to join her on the mat to cultivate mindfulness, strength, and balance, to harness the power of yoga to foster well-being in mind, body, and spirit.  Rhona is committed to supporting a healthy, safe and balanced yoga practice that encourages students to deepen physical awareness and enjoy their discoveries.

When not on her yoga mat, Rhona is a lawyer and mediator, a mother, and sometimes an actor, always striving to incorporate the principles of yoga and  mindfulness into her life and work.
